You would think that antibiotics are good, and save lives, which is true, but now a days people are using to many antibiotics and letting them transform and mutate so that we are restistant to those drugs when we take them. More specifically, the bacteria that we are trying to get rid of become resistant. Every year in Europe 25 000 people die from serious reststance to infections aquired in hospitals. http://www.euro.who.int/de/what-we-do/health-topics/disease-prevention/antimicrobial-resistance/antibiotic-resistance Thursday October 20 2011

Occurs when microorganisms render themselves so that medication doesnt effect them. Called superbugs and can now infect others, and kill. http://www.who.int/topics/drug_resistance/en/ Thursday October 20 2011

Mainly problems in the countries where you are able to get almost any drug over the counter. (China, India, Africa) Also a HUGE problem in animals (Honeybees, cows, fish) where drugs are used as growth premoters, then humans eat them and make the bugs restsant. Prevention: France "Antibiotics are not automatic" - 26.5% reduction. USA "Get Smart". Canada "Do bugs need drugs?"- 20% less antibiotic ussage. The world is aware and trying to make an effort to promote not using drugs as the answer to every bug. http://www.who.int/bulletin/volumes/88/11/10-031110/en/ Thursday October 2011
